Jeffrey Watts defines sketchbooking as a low-pressure visual diary and training ground where consistency and intention build real skill.
What draws me to this practice is the freedom to develop real skill by studying the following design system principles of representational art at my own pace: anatomy, proportion, perspective, light and shadow, hierarchy, and rhythm.
I always keep a sketchbook with me. Separate ones for portraits, hands, Bridgeman studies, foundational studies, and I draw whenever I have the time.
